Joan Newman, Esq.:

After more than 30 years as a practicing attorney, Joan Newman, Esq. founded Joan Newman & Associates LLC to provide legal coaching and training to lawyers across the country. She applies her professional experience as a successful attorney, perspectives from mentoring lawyers, and knowledge from teaching at one the country’s most prestigious law schools to her current role as a certified legal coach and trainer.

Joan’s coaching and training programs focus on legal business development, project management, leadership development, and professional development. She offers one-on-one legal coaching sessions as well as group training programs. She also provides facilitation services, legal outplacement counseling, and public speaking/presentations on critical legal industry topics.

Prior to founding her own legal coaching and training consulting firm, Joan served as a senior partner at Thompson Coburn LLP, the largest law firm in St. Louis, and chaired its Employee Benefits Practice Group. As a member of the firm’s management committee, she was responsible for legal associate training and professional development. Prior to joining Thompson Coburn, Joan served as a partner at Lewis, Rice & Fingersh in St. Louis.

Joan earned her Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Doctor of Law (J.D.) degrees from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, where she served as the managing editor of the Washington University Law Quarterly and member of the Order of the Coif (honorary). She later went on to serve as an adjunct law professor for the law school for nearly 20 years. Joan earned her bachelor’s degree from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
She is an award winner, published author, and frequent legal industry speaker.
